Asso.subsea has secured a series of major contracts from Nexans for subsea cable installation and protection works across TenneT’s 2GW transmission program in the German North Sea. The awards include scopes for the BalWin3, LanWin2, and LanWin4 projects, with campaigns scheduled for execution between 2027 and 2031. Collectively, these projects represent a cornerstone contribution to Europe’s offshore energy infrastructure.
Under these contracts, Asso.subsea will execute more than 650km of offshore burial works and over 60km of nearshore laying and burial operations. These works will be performed using our cable-laying vessel Atalanti, equipped with a modified turntable system to accommodate the four-cable bundle configuration (including two 525 kV HVDC poles, one metallic return and one fiber optic submarine cables). Additional support will come from the company’s fleet of Trenching Support Vessels, including Avra, which is currently under construction and expected to join the fleet starting from Q1 2028.
The works include extensive jetting and mechanical trenching activities to achieve the required depth of burial, supported by comprehensive as-laid and as-buried survey operations, utilizing the AssoTrencher IV and AssoJet III series of tools, covering the entire offshore burial scope. The nearshore scopes will also involve the loading and transportation of the submarine cables from Nexans’ facility in Norway, as well as several beaching and simultaneous lay-and-burial operations, demonstrating Asso.subsea’s proven experience in managing complex coastal transitions and integrated subsea protection campaigns.
“These awards are a strong recognition of our ability to execute highly demanding scopes, from precision nearshore operations to deep-water burial campaigns,” said Alessandro Panico, Director of Business Development at Asso.subsea. “They also reflect the strength of our long-standing collaboration with Nexans and our shared commitment to advancing Europe’s offshore energy transition.” These projects further solidify Asso.subsea’s position as a leading subsea installation and protection partner in one of Europe’s most ambitious offshore grid expansion programs.
