The IFA2 project concerns the HVDC and HVAC electricity transmission interconnector between France and England across the English Channel. In addition to the main HVDC interconnection, there is a HVAC link from the converter station at the main English landfall Daedalus to a substation further up Southampton Water at Chilling Brownwich.

The HVAC link (6x power cables) is approximately 5.6km in length. The six power cables will be laid and protected individually between Daedalus and Chilling with a 20m separation on the seabed.

Prysmian Group (Prysmian) has awarded ASSO a contract for the execution of the turnkey supply and installation of the Interconnection France Angleterre (hereinafter IFA2) electricity transmission interconnector between France and England across English Channel. The project is being jointly developed by Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) and National Grid International Limited (NGIL) and concerns the cable protection.

ASSO’s scope of work included:

  • Preparation Activities // Mobilization activities
  • Post Lay Burial by means of Trenching – Nearshore/Shallow
  • As-buried (MBES/TSS) survey
