In 2006, Prysmian Cavi e Sistemi Energia SrL and Nexans AS were awarded a contract by L’Office National de L’Electricite and Red Electrica de Espana SA for the supply installation and protection of a 400kV AC submarine cable system between Morocco and Spain. The cable system consists of three (3) oil-filled power cables (No.7, No.6 and No.5) and two (2) incorporated FO cables.
In October 2016, Cable No.7 was reported to be leaking oil and having an electrical damage, while cable No.6 was leaking oil without having an electrical damage.
ASDG - having a contractual relationship with Nexans and Prysmian consortium, successfully completed the nearshore protection works of the abovementioned cable system in 2006 - has been awarded a contract to execute immediate cut and seal operations on both cables No 6 and No 7 of the Spain – Morocco 2 Interconnection, as well as the repair of Cable No6.
More specifically, ASDG scope of work included ROV survey of the cable damage (cable No.6 and No.7), cut and seal operations on both cables, spare cable transpooling at Algeciras port, repair of No.6 power cable and as-laid survey.
The works were completed during November 2016-January 2017 using the construction support vessel Aethra.
